Hohovec, also known as the "City of Roses"
Hlohovec is a district town in the Trnava region. What makes it unique, is its location on the river Váh, its history and the beer brewing and wine making traditions.
For centuries the city has been linked with its landmark – the Hlohovec castle – which was originally a medieval castle from the 13th century. Following a partial restoration, the castle was reopened to the public in the autumn of 2018. When visiting the castle, you can enjoy the museum's permanent exhibitions and take virtual tours showcasing the original appearance of the castle using tablets and 3D glasses. The castle is situated in the upper part of the castle gardens which also include the largest sycamore tree park in Central Europe. In the castle park you can find the unique Empire Theatre which is currently the only still functioning theatre of its kind.
Hlohovec also offers other interesting places worth visiting, chief among them the Observatory and Planetarium of M. R. Štefánik that houses the second largest telescope in Slovakia.
The inhabitants of Hlohovec take pride in the unique protected nature reserve Sedliská with its rare flora. To experience its beauty, tourists can take two educational trails or a cycling route.
